Summary:
Program Instructors are responsible for the planning and implementation of integrated programs for individuals of diverse abilities. The candidate will ensure safe, engaging and inclusive learning experiences that cater to the unique needs of each participant while promoting physical activity, skill development and teamwork.
Major responsibilities, include, but are not limited to;
Overseeing, creating, and organizing the program they are responsible/scheduled for;
Ensuring the safety of the participants in programs;
Leading groups through an activity in an organized, inclusive, fun manner that keeps participants active and engaged throughout the program;
Ensuring that participants are included and fostering relationships within the facility amongst their peers;
Ensuring programming is adapted to individual participants with disabilities;
Enforce program rules and facility regulations to ensure participant safety.
Complete attendance records and submit incident/accident reports as needed.
Serve as first responder to medical, behavioral, customer service situations in programs as necessary;
Ability to address members or situations without support of full-time staff onsite;
Communicating issues and/or incidents in programs to Program Coordinators;
Attending In-Service training sessions throughout the year on a seasonal basis;
Complete attendance records and submit incident/accident reports as needed.
Participating in Plan to Protect and adherence to Variety's established policies and procedures.
Other related duties as assigned.
Key Competencies & Qualifications:
High school diploma or post-secondary education in Kinesiology, Recreation, or related field.
A valid certification in Standard First Aid - CPR C, AED and Airway management is an asset.
HIGH-FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) qualifications an asset.
Experience and/or education in recreation, sports, physical education or education an asset.
Strong problem solving and communication skills.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities or behavior needs in a variety of settings.
Strong understanding of program modifications and behavior management strategies.
Strong teamwork, organization, collaboration, and planning skills.
Understanding and knowledge of the programs held in the facility during hours of operation.
Strong problem-solving skills, leadership and communication skills.
Experience working or interacting with customer service & membership
Ability to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
