Skills Development and Employment ensures that people with disabilities find and keep meaningful jobs by matching them with employers seeking qualified job candidates. In addition, they offer support with assessments, rehabilitation and child and youth programs.
The opportunity
March of Dimes Canada is currently hiring a
Skills Trainer
to support the
Project SEARCH program
at the
YMCA of Three Rivers in Guelph
. This is a
contract position
, focused on providing individualized support and employment readiness training to interns with developmental or cognitive disabilities, helping them gain meaningful employment skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Project SEARCH Instructor, business liaisons, family members, and internal and external stakeholders
Identify and develop internship placements that offer skill-building opportunities
Implement and tailor training strategies using systematic instruction methods
Develop task analysis and train interns to meet required productivity and quality standards
Support interns with grooming, hygiene, communication, and interview preparation
Provide accessibility/accommodation support in line with MODC policy
Understand and model department culture and expectations for interns
Assess intern progress, provide feedback, and support their learning journey
Complete reports, documentation, and assessment tools (e.g., VocFit) as needed
Maintain communication with the steering committee on intern progress and program fidelity
Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and MODC policies
Qualifications:
Degree or diploma in Social Services, Developmental Services, or a related field
Minimum 1 year of experience in training, coaching, or employment support
Experience in employment counseling is an asset
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
Proficiency with computers and MS Office applications
