LaPrairie Works Inc. is a diversified and growing civil maintenance and construction contractor with over 37 years of operating experience across Western Canada. Our core businesses include Mobile Crane & Rigging, Highway Infrastructure Maintenance and Construction, On / Off Highway Bulk Commodity Hauling, Specialized Heavy Hauling, Oilfield Services, Mine Contracting, Proppant Supply and Logistics, and General On-Site Services.

We are looking to expand our operations areas and are preparing a response to an RFP announced by Parsons Corporation for the Giant Mine Reclamation Project. We are looking for qualified professionals to join our Team should we be successful in procuring the contract for this project.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Skilled Labourer will assist tradespersons and perform labour activities throughout the site. The Skilled Labourer will work with other site personnel to sort operational wastes into designated waste streams before depositing them in their respective waste containers in the work area. They will be responsible for reporting leakages, missing covers, or misuse of material receptacles to their supervisor. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Adhere to all Client and LaPrairie SOP\'s, policies and procedures, including health, safety and environment (HSE) polices.
  • Load / unload materials and move them to various work areas.
  • Erect and dismantle forms, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades.
  • Mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt.
  • Assist equipment operators with securing special attachments to equipment.
  • Guide equipment operators when moving equipment and provide assistance with other activities.
  • Assist with setting up and operating machinery.
  • Level earth to fine grade specifications using rakes and shovels.
  • Assist in demolishing buildings using prying bars and other tools.
  • Sort, clean and pile salvaged materials.
  • Remove rubble and other debris from work sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment.
  • Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers as directed.
  • Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants and remove hazardous materials.
  • Oil and grease hoists and similar equipment.
  • Direct traffic at or near work sites.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • 2+ years of skilled labour experience in the mining or construction industries.
  • Knowledge and experience with handling and operating power and hand tools.
  • A high school qualification or equivalent.
  • Stamina and strength to perform manual labour.
  • A valid driver\'s license.
  • Excellent hand-eye-coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
