Program Facilitators
for our
Skill Builder Programs
. Skill Builder is an inclusive program series that supports the mental, social, emotional, and physical development of children and youth. Skilled and passionate facilitators deliver programs to children and youth ages 4 - 14 years. Facilitators foster a sense of belonging, help build confidence, provide opportunities to practice skills, encourage independence, and introduce support strategies (based on individual needs and abilities).

Shifts are scheduled within the listed timeframes based on program registration:
Tuesday (4:30-7:45 pm):
Friendship Foundations (6-9 yrs, 9-12 yrs)
Wednesday (4:30-7:45 pm):
Anxiety Explorers (6-9 yrs, 9-12 yrs)
Thursday (4:30-7:45 pm):
Wellness Warriors (6-9 yrs, 9-12 yrs)
Saturday (9:00 am-12:15 pm):
Fine Motor (4-6 yrs), Mini Minds STEM Lab (5-7 yrs)
Sunday (9:00 am-12:15 pm):
Direction Detectives (6-8 yrs, 9-12 yrs)
Session Dates:
Fall 1: September-October
Fall 2: November-December
Winter: January-March
Spring: April-June
Hours:
Part-time, afternoons/evenings and weekends
Qualifications/ Experience Required:
Diploma or Degree in Human Services (i.e., Child Studies, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Child and Youth Care), Health and Physical Education, and Education preferred.
Students (currently enrolled in the above programs) may be considered based on coursework completed to date, training received, volunteer experience and previous work experience.
Experience working with children and youth with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges is an asset.
Background knowledge and experience supporting Executive Functioning skills and Self-Regulation strategies a definite asset.
Trauma-informed and strength-based approach.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certification.
Clear Police Information Check submitted on or before start date. Must submit receipt if application is in process. A previous check will be accepted provided it is dated within the past 6 months.
Previous experience in a recreation environment and High Five Certified is an asset.
Performance Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Be a Positive Role Model: Present a supportive/caring approach and professional appearance. Actively promote Trico's mission, vision, and values.
Ensure the Safety and Well-Being of Participants: On day 1, review the purpose of Skill Builder Programs, guide group in creating a rules poster, and use this visual for all session dates. Be a positive and pro-active role model who adheres to rules during activities and demonstrates proper use of equipment. Follow emergency procedures and protocols. Provide first aid assistance when required.
Plan and Organize Activities:Develop lesson plans and organize activities that cater to the diverse interests and skill levels of the children/youth within the program. Ensure that activities are inclusive and promote skill development.
Facilitation and Instruction: Lead group sessions, effectively engaging participants in activities and discussions that promote targeted skills. Provide clear instructions and guidance to participants, adapting activities as needed to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Create a Supportive Environment: Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere where children feel comfortable expressing themselves and trying new things. Encourage teamwork, cooperation, and respect among participants.
Individualized Support: Identify the individual needs and abilities of each child and tailor instruction accordingly. Offer extra guidance and support to those who may require additional assistance in developing/mastering specific skills.
Build Confidence and Sense of Belonging: Implement strategies to boost children's confidence and self-esteem by recognizing their progress and achievements. Promote a sense of belonging within the group by fostering friendships and a supportive community environment.
Communication with Caregivers: Maintain open and clear communication with parents/guardians regarding their child's progress, challenges, and achievements in the program (during drop-off and pick-up times). Address any concerns or questions they may have in a timely and professional manner (i.e., provide Director contact information).
Maintain facilities: Ensure equipment is properly stored and secure. Immediately report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the Duty Manager / Director.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
May be required to bend, twist, move and lift items weighing 30 lbs. or greater.
Work in a noisy environment with varied sports-related equipment.
Responsible for program set-up and take-down (ensuring materials are returned and locked up
Schedule:
Part Time afternoon/evening and weekend hours will be required and will necessitate flexible hours within the general Trico Centre scope of operations in keeping with the needs of the department. The weekly work schedule will be developed cooperatively with the Child and Youth Programs Director to effectively accommodate the needs of the position, department and organization.
