Baldy Ski Patrol is responsible for mountain safety, on-hill risk management, hazard mitigation and resort emergency response. They often work on their own and must exhibit sound decision making, interpersonal skills, and a high level of professionalism. Patrollers must deliver all the duties as required by Baldy Mountain Resort (BMR) in a safe and constructive manner and must have a proactive approach to safety initiatives and constantly seeking ways of improving mountain safety for its staff and visitors alike.
Patrol employees perform all of the following duties:
Providing first aid, emergency response or other assistance to anyone in need
Ensuring the ongoing safety of guests and staff by; doing start & end of day mountain sweeps to ensure safety; checking trails and surrounding areas for hazards; recognizing hazards and marking hazard properly with fencing or signage; maintaining all hazard markings
Maintaining patrol equipment and facilities in a clean and working condition.
Ensuring all markings are clearly visible and easy to understand
Ensuring that all incidents are handled respectfully and responsibly
Taking an active part in skier/rider education and public relations
Maintaining a reasonable understanding of ski area risks and responsibilities
Being familiar with the locations of trails and their designation
Helping customers enjoy all aspects of their skiing experience
Reporting to Head of Patrol and Patrol Supervisor in order to facilitate the safe and smooth running of the mountain.
Work effectively with all departments including Events, Lift Operations, Lift Maintenance and Grooming.
Participating in daily Patrol team briefs and debriefs
Participating in periodic training sessions
Assisting with weather observations, snow study and avalanche mitigation as needed
Practicing safe snowmobile operations
Performing Lift evacuations as part of a team
Running patient toboggan and other equipment
Communicating via radio in a clear and polite manner.
Baldy Mountain Resort reserves the right to assign other duties to you from time to time. These duties may include working in other departments which may include but not limited to Lift Operations, Rental Shop, Restaurant and on Special Events.

Patrol Job Requirements:
19 years of age or older
Valid Advanced First Aid level 3 certificate and or nuec or Outdoor Emergency Care Certificate or 80 plus hours First Aid certificate or EMALB of British Columbia EMR, PCP or ACP license
Valid Driver License with clear driving abstract
Strong alpine skier/boarder/telemarker in all snow terrain and conditions: Capable of skiing/riding with toboggans, fencing supplies and signage
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Emergency response and first aid experience an asset
Risk and Safety Awareness
Rope Rescue knowledge, skills and certification an asset
Avalanche and Snow study knowledge, skills and certification an asset
Strong understanding of the topography of the mountain, lifts and terrain
Physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions
Strong human relation skills
Committed and Honest worker
Open minded and approachable personality
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and emergencies
Ability to multi-task
Hours:
4-10s three days off
Average per week range between 35-40 hours F/T
Operation hours can range from 7:30am till 6:00pm
