Overview
The City of Victoria is looking for enthusiastic and experienced skating instructors to deliver skating lessons at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Skating Instructors are in contract positions and are not City of Victoria employees.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Instruct children (2-15 yrs) and adults of varying abilities and levels to the required skating skills outlined in the Learn to Skate Program.
Prepare lesson plans for a variety of skill levels.
Collaborate with other instructors in group settings.
Set up and take down ice and equipment.
Communicate progress with parents/caregivers.
Track participant progress and keep accurate records for reporting.
Assess skills and complete report cards
Commit to attending all scheduled lessons
Perform other duties as needed
Qualifications, Experience and Requirements
Greater Victoria Active Community Instructor Training (GVAC) course or equivalent experience.
Strong skating skills with either a hockey, ringette or figure skating background.
Experience teaching skating lessons (preferred).
Experience teaching children (3-12 yrs)
Current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check (within 6 months).
Emergency First Aid with CPR-C
Compensation: $26.78/hour. (Please note this is a non-union position)
Hours of work: Thursdays 3:45- 6:45 p.m. and Sundays 1:15-5:15 p.m.
