If you are interested in this tremendous opportunity, we have an immediate opening for: Skate Park Ambassador June 1 - August 30, 2023 Starting Wage - $20.12/hour SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: 1. Build rapport and trust with skate park users, including, children, youth, adults and families, focusing on building a positive skate park culture. 2. Assist the Youth Services Mentoring Coordinator in the training, mentoring, and leadership of Skate Park Mentors (Ambassadors-in-Training) 3. Collaborate with other Town departments and youth-serving agencies, such as, RCMP, Municipal Enforcement, Recreation and Culture, Youth Unlimited, etc 4. Maintenance and upkeep of the skate park, including sweeping, waxing of rails, litter/garbage removal and completion of daily inspections and maintenance of tools and equipment 5. Dealing with questions from the public in a friendly and professional manner and refer questions to supervisors when necessary 6. Ensuring patrons are aware and are adhering to safety protocols 7. Assist beginners and young park users with etiquette, flow and technique 8. Be alert to surroundings, identify potential hazards, and take effective safety precautions. Wear appropriate gear and PPE for the task and weather conditions present 9. Coordinate competitions and/or skate park engagement events with park users and industry partners 10. Participate in Youth Services staff and mentor training program including; Positive Youth Development, mental health and suicide prevention, conflict resolution and de-escalation 11. Assist in Flipside Youth Centre programs when the Skate Park is not being used due to inclement weather 12. Physical ability and strength, including lifting up to 50 lbs. to perform manual labour tasks and handle equipment TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
Experience working with or volunteering with children and youth
Knowledge of skate park operations including etiquette, flow and technique
Proficient at skating, BMX and/or scooter
Experience working with tools and power tools (hand tools, mowers, power tools etc.)
Candidates will be required to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends
Candidates must be able and willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
RCMP based Vulnerable Sector Check
Current Standard First Aid/CPR with AED is required (but can be offered in-house)
Valid Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License (with proof of Driving Record) is required
