PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Reporting to the Recreation Programmer/Recreation Coordinator, plan, organize and implement a high quality program that is stimulating and enjoyable for all participants. Provide supervision, guidance and coaching to staff and volunteers. Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of registered participants at all times. Provides direction to Skate Instructors/Volunteers.
Position Duties:
Supervise participants and maintain complete vigilance to minimize risk, and be ready to respond at all times
Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency situation
Ensure all participants are equipped with proper personal protective equipment (e.g. helmet) when required
Supervise program participants and ensure their safety both on and off ice
Provide a high level of front line customer service including greeting and engaging participants
Address and resolve complaints and on-ice issues
Complete administrative duties in a timely manner (e.g. on ice program allocations, class lists and incident/accident reports)
Recruit, supervise, coach and evaluate staff
Assist with promotion of programs
Develop, deliver and document staff training and meetings
Plan, organize and deliver high quality safe and stimulating programs for all levels of participants
Ensure participants and staff are equipped with all mandatory equipment during the program
Ensure staff are following program plans and legislative requirements
Handle program feedback in a professional manner by providing exceptional customer service
Complete administrative duties in a timely manner (i.e. staff and program schedules, payroll, reports and incident/accident reports)
Monitor the use of equipment and supplies, conduct inventory counts and re-stock as needed
Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action
Maintain an understanding of department programs and services
Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff
Attend meetings/training as required
Performs other duties as assigned
SELECTION CRITERIA:
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 5 years of skating experience
Exceptional experience as an Instructor with the City of Brampton in the Learn to Skate program or teaching with other skate affiliates/agencies (Skate Canada CanSkate, municipal skate programs)
Experience in Hockey, Figure Skating, and/or Power Skating or ability to skate at an advanced level (Forward Skating, Backward Skating, Turns, Inside/Outside Edges,
Stops, Jumps and Crossovers)
OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:
Minimum 17 years of age
Current Standard First Aid / CPR C from an accredited organization, or ability to obtain within 1 month of date of hire
HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or Sport Certification, or ability to obtain within 2 months of the date of hire
HIGH FIVE Quest 2, considered an asset
Ability to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.)
Exceptional customer service and communication skills
Preference will be given to students that have a permanent residency in Brampton. Various tests and/or exams may be administered as part of the selection criteria. Alternate formats will be provided upon request.
