Located conveniently next to the University of Winnipeg, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg Activity Centre is a growing hub for on-site mentoring programs and unique collaborations between non-profit youth-serving groups, and other community bookings. We also provide space for our own programming, including drop-in for mentoring matches and waitlist families, LEAP (group tutoring), and Ukulele group.
This is an excellent opportunity for students looking for additional hours in human service work, and experience as a social service worker, Early Child Educators, Education Student, Counsellor, or Youth Worker. This opportunity may also offer some downtime to complete their studies occasionally while working as well, provided all responsibilities are completed.
Ideal candidates are working on a human service degree and have some experience in youth development, recreational management, and leadership qualities. The ability to communicate warmly, respectfully, and supportively while managing groups is an important skill.
A candidate who will interact joyfully with people of all ages and backgrounds, and is passionate about community-building, recreation/activities for youth and understands the value of relationship and connection. You will operate as a program mentor from time to time and must truly enjoy spending time with youth.
Basic cleaning responsibilities and space/supply management, some program support for agency events. Some youth group management would be beneficial.
As programs will be dependent on you showing up, reliability is a must. Candidates should feel confident working alone.
An awareness of systemic oppression, cultural awareness, and knowledge of the intersections of identity is required. Hours may fluctuate weekly, averaging 6 hours a week. Pay is $16 per hour. The term will run until May 20, 2026, with the opportunity to be extended or renewed.
You must have 3work or volunteer-related references, produce a child abuse registry check, and a police record check with vulnerable sector clearance.
Current schedule:
Wednesdays: 5 pm - 8 pm
Saturdays: 1-4 pm
