Site Supervisor / Foreman

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Perform skilled labour, including but not limited to; surveying, grading, placing boulders, building retaining walls, planting trees, shrubs and perennials, installing hardscape pavers, basic woodworking, as well as general labour tasks.
  • Coordinate and manage landscape construction tasks on multiple sites.
  • Complete projects efficiently on schedule and budget, and assist with budget tracking and project estimation.
  • Assist with guiding, training, and managing a crew or multiple crews of labourers.
  • Monitor quality control and ensure tasks are completed to the highest quality in accordance with construction plans and specifications.
  • Ensure company\xe2\x80\x99s safety procedures are being followed at all times, and assist with SECOR safety program administration and reporting.
  • This position could also include an internship / work experience with reGenerate Design, the ecological landscape design firm that produces the designs for Garrett Contracting\xe2\x80\x99s landscape installations. This internship would involve working directly with reGenerate Design part-time (15-20 hours per week) and may include:
Learning the ecological design process / Fieldwork helping with site analysis &
assessment / Assist with drafting using Vectorworks CAD software and
database management / Other office tasks, social media, and more
  • This position is available to start full-time in mid to late June, and last for the entire installation season until around October/November. For the right candidate, and depending on the installation season and other factors, this position could potentially be extended into a year-round role.

Experience:
  • On-site Supervisory Role - 2 years required
  • Landscape construction - 2 years required
  • Thorough knowledge of safe work procedures

  • Working with laser levels/grading instruments
  • Planting tress, shrubs and perennials
Skills:
  • Management

  • Earthworks and machinery (skidsteer, excavator)

  • Clean Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License
  • Must have steel-toed boots
Training: (considered an asset, not necessarily required)
  • Landscape Architecture Degree, Diploma or Certificate
  • Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC)
  • Landscape Horticulture Apprenticeship
  • Master gardener Program

  • This position is suited for someone who is interested in gaining field experience in Rainwater Harvesting, Food Forestry, Ecological Design, and is passionate about the subjects at hand. Someone who wants to make the world a better place and has a concern for ecological/human health. You will be working on innovative installation projects for a mix of public spaces, schools and residential sites around Calgary.
