Summary: Reporting directly to the Project Director, the Site Superintendent is responsible for the overall control, direction, and progression of all contracted construction work performed in the field. The Site Superintendent will be directly accountable for managing and maintaining a workforce responsible for building a fibre telecommunications network, ensuring a high degree of productivity and quality while adhering to all occupational health and safety regulations and requirements. The site superintendent will deliver the specified work within time, budget and to the desired level of quality and workmanship. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote a professional and co-operative working relationship with the owner, the contract administrator, design consultants and the community to ensure repeat business.
  • Serve as the primary field contact and promptly investigate and respond to issues raised by community, municipality, contract owners and partners, to foster a positive and supportive working relationship.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner to Owners, Engineers, Employees, and the communities we serve.
  • Ensure that all field employees operate in accordance with occupational health and safety standards and establish safety programs and protocols.
  • Review all the background materials associated with the project (i.e., contract plans, drawings, specifications, addendum, geotechnical information, etc.) to become familiar with the client\xe2\x80\x99s objectives, the overall project needs, the major milestones and any applicable operational and/or working constraints.
  • Organize regular site meetings with field employees to help unify and build a high performing and engaged workforce through regular communications on project plan, priorities, operational procedures, safety reminders, and overall continuous improvement through field observation and lessons learned.
  • Regularly be present on site, supporting employees as required and conducting ongoing quality assurance checks of work performed.
  • Build and promote a collaborative and healthy team environment.
  • Manage schedules and configure operating crews to maximize efficiency and productivity towards project milestones and objectives.
  • Ensure all field employees are equipped with and actively use the necessary documentation required to adhere to all approved design plans, municipal guidelines and utility locates.
  • Ensure that all employees regularly check for all local utility and communications networks prior to the commencement of any construction work at location.
  • Ensure all work performed within the community is done respectfully and that all reasonable measures are taken to mitigate restoration work required.
  • Ensure that all operators of vehicles, equipment, and machines perform regular maintenance at prescribed frequency to prevent damage, downtime, and avoidable operating costs.
  • Ensure that all work completed from employees and contractors are clearly and completely documented within daily production dockets and submitted on time for daily project tracking.
  • Input of all completed work elements into a central company database and provide regular production summaries to Vision senior management.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of inventory on hand and work collaboratively with contract owners and partners to raise and resolve issues.
  • Attend regular meetings with Project Director, Contract partners and company owners to review project progress, risks, and operating needs.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Construction Management Degree with Civil Construction experience (preferably telecommunications)
  • 5 - 10 years of construction experience is required
  • 5 years of construction management experience
  • 5 years of knowledge and experience working within telecommunications construction and municipal infrastructure preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with working within the requirements and guidelines of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Valid Ontario Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License
  • Proficient in the English language (written and oral) with strong inter-personal and communication skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills in highly demanding and time sensitive situations is essential.
  • Adept at multi-tasking and prioritizing
  • Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Negotiation and conflict management
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with using office applications Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is an asset.
  • Must be able to apply innovative management practices to maximize project perform.
  • Strong commitment to timing and quality standards
