-De Beers Group of Companies has a temporary opportunity for an individual to join the Site Services team at the Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 Mine site based in the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Site Services Supervisor and working a two (2) weeks in / two (2) weeks out rotation, the incumbent will be involved in operating site services cranes and heavy equipment as well as any other tasks as assigned by the Site Services Supervisor. The ideal candidate will be one who enjoys multi-tasking, is results oriented and is committed to safe working practices and strives for zero harm. Key responsibilities:
  • Work with team to conduct job risk assessment and safe work plans;
  • Report all incidents, near misses and unsafe working conditions to Supervisor;
  • Perform all duties adhering to safety and participate in shop safety program and toolbox talks;
  • Operate 50 / 130 tonne cranes or higher;
  • Interpret lifting capacity tables and ensures load is fixed and within the weight limit; Fill in lifting permits and paperwork.
  • Communicate with assigned crews to determine crane placement and items to be moved;
  • Perform pre-operational inspection, safety checks, test lifts and calculate crane capacities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting;
  • Air strip grading / runway maintenance and ensure the strip meets CFRI requirements for aircraft;
  • Comply with the standards and regulations that govern the operation of cranes;
  • Operate various heavy equipment (loaders, graders etc.) as trained and certified;
  • Conduct daily safety checks and inspections of the equipment before operating;
  • Monitor equipment and report any problems according to operating procedures;
  • Follow procedures and standards such as safety, environmental, and code of conduct; and
  • Other duties as outlined be the supervisor site services.
This is a site-based position working 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

Qualifications
-Formal qualifications:
  • Certified Journeyman or Red Seal in Crane and Hoisting Equipment;
  • Minimum of 10 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience with operating mobile cranes;
  • Minimum of 10 Years\xe2\x80\x99 experience with operating heavy equipment; and
  • Eligible for a site driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
  • Grader operator experience an asset \xe2\x80\x93 Grading the airstrip.
  • Experience in mining industry, remote sites and open pit mines;
  • Experience in a cross-cultural work environment is an asset.
  • Experience in runway maintenance
  • Ability to safely workday and night shifts on a rotational basis;
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written; and
  • Ability to work in a safety-oriented, fast-paced, cross-cultural environment.
