-The De Beers Group of Companies has an opportunity for a motivated and energetic individual to join the Engineering & Site Services team at the Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 Mine Site based in the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Site Services Supervisor and working a two (2) weeks in / two (2) weeks out rotation, the incumbent will learn how to safely and effectively manage and report on all areas of waste management within the NWT regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be one who enjoys multi-tasking, is results oriented and is committed to safe working practices and strives for zero harm. Key responsibilities:

  • Performing routine collection, identification and disposal of waste generated by site and construction;
  • Preparing recyclable and hazardous waste for ice road removal;
  • Preparing, organizing and maintaining records & documents related to waste management;
  • Directing and training others in proper waste handling;
  • Tracking the movement of waste on site in a waste inventory;
  • Tracking and organizing legal regulatory documentation;
  • Packaging waste for transport and storage and preparing manifests for offsite shipments;
  • Performing incinerator repair work (Refractory, Secondary)
  • Organizing and having good housekeeping of the waste management facilities; and
  • Following designated practices to assure quality, safety and efficiency of procedures.
Reporting to the Site Services Supervisor, the role resides within the Site Services department.

  • Qualifications
    -Preference will be given to Members of the Deninu Ku\xc3\xa9, Lutsel K\xe2\x80\x99e Dene First Nation, North Slave M\xc3\xa9tis Alliance, Northwest Territory M\xc3\xa9tis Nation, Tlicho Government, or Yellowknives Dene First Nation, followed by non-indigenous residents of the Northwest Territories;
  • A resident of the Northwest Territories;
  • Certification or experience (3-5) Years in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and/or Transportation of Hazardous Goods (THG);
  • Attention to detail and highly organized;
  • Experience with packaging, labelling and tracking hazardous and dangerous goods;
  • Previous general experience in waste management activities highly regarded;
  • Minimum High school diploma or GED;
  • Basic computer skills with familiarity with MS Excel and Word;
  • Computer skills \xe2\x80\x93 Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting;
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Possess or is eligible for a driver\xe2\x80\x99s license or a site license;
  • Experience in the operation of light or heavy-duty equipment an asset;
  • Experience in a cross-cultural (aboriginal) work environments an asset; and
  • Previous mining experience will be an asset.
