About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently recruiting for a Site Operations Engineer at Christina Lake.

Reporting to the Manager, Operations Process Engineering, the Site Operations Engineer is responsible to support water treatment, steam generation and utilities. The successful candidate will apply their engineering knowledge and problem-solving skills to address safety, environmental, regulatory compliance or realize equipment optimization opportunities. The Site Operations Engineer-in-Training will identify/scope opportunities and engineering projects that will add business value by reducing residual risks, increasing capacity, or reducing OPEX.

This position will provide field level process engineering support to Operations at Christina Lake and Calgary-based Operations Process Engineers.

Work Environment:

This is a full-time employee position working a shift of 12hrs per day, 7 days on, 7 days off. Tuesday to Tuesday.

Christina Lake has full-service camp facilities.

Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations.

Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB.

Responsibilities:

Identify capacity bottlenecks and optimization opportunities for water treatment, steam production, water balance, fuel gas balance and heat integration daily to ensure throughput is maximized and all regulatory requirements are being met.

Provide technical support to Operations and Maintenance to resolve short-term operational issues in the steam generation, water treatment and utilities areas.

Preliminary scoping, economic justification, & initiation of engineering projects, control and/or operational changes to address bottlenecks or increase capacity, reduce operating costs, e.g., chemical usage, and reduce safety or regulatory compliance risks.

Complete or support work intake for process engineering investigations and management of change requests.

Coordinate process trials (PTRs) for new chemicals or process optimization.

Complete Construction Work Packages (CWPs) for small scope projects.

Complete process simulations and/or engineering calculations to understand impact of potential process changes.

Complete process release calculations to support process safety event incident investigations.

Attend Process Hazard Assessments (PHAs), revalidation HazOps, Over Pressure Risk Assessments, and Risk Assessments for bypasses and abnormal Operation as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Develop and maintain advanced engineering models to track long-term fouling of steam generators, heat exchangers, ion exchange and after-filter vessels.

Chair weekly Technical Meetings with Operations and key stakeholders from the area work team.

Qualifications:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Must be a registered P. Eng with APEGA

Will consider new graduates with up to 5 years of process engineering related experience or candidates who are currently enrolled in the new grad program that have completed their second term and would like to graduate from the program early into this full-time role

Chemical Engineering degree is considered an asset

Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and deadlines

Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills

Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team

A valid Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license is required

This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to the relevant requirements of the Cenovus Alcohol and Drug policy which includes pre-assignment testing
