The Site Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and safety of the camp's facilities and grounds during an overnight camp program. The Site Manager also works closely with the Camp Director to oversee staffing for camp programs, ensuring proper support for camp activities and ensuring the well-being of campers and staff. This role is crucial in maintaining the operational and programmatic success of the camp while fostering a safe, welcoming, and mission-driven environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilities & Grounds Management:

Oversee the general maintenance and cleanliness of all camp buildings, cabins, grounds, and facilities (e.g., kitchen, bathrooms, recreational areas).

Ensure proper functioning of camp utilities, including water, plumbing, electrical, heating, and waste management systems.

Perform routine inspections of facilities and equipment, addressing repairs promptly and coordinating any necessary outside contractor services.

Safety & Compliance:

Ensure that all facilities comply with safety regulations and guidelines, including fire safety, sanitation, and accessibility standards.

Monitor the safety and security of camp buildings and grounds, implementing preventative measures to avoid accidents or emergencies.

Assist the Camp Director in enforcing safety policies and procedures for staff, campers, and visitors.

Program Staff Oversight:

Work with the Camp Director to ensure the appropriate number of staff members are available to support camp activities, including maintenance, kitchen, and program staff.

Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of staff, particularly in roles related to camp operations and facilities.

Schedule and coordinate maintenance staffs shifts and ensure adequate coverage during camp sessions.

Serve as a liaison between program staff and the maintenance team, addressing logistical needs and supporting a smooth integration of facilities and program activities.

Provide guidance and mentorship to maintenance and support staff to ensure high quality performance.

Staff Supervision & Collaboration:

Supervise maintenance staff, including custodians, groundkeepers, and other facility support workers, ensuring task are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Collaborate with camp program staff to support camp activities and ensure that all required spaces are prepared and available.

Provide support to staff in resolving facilities-related issues that may arise during camp sessions.

Inventory & Supplies Management:

Maintain an inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment; ensure that these are properly stored and readily available when needed.

Coordinate the procurement of maintenance supplies, tools, and replacement parts as necessary, adhering to budget constraints.

Emergency Response:

Serve as the primary contact for all on-site emergencies, coordinating response efforts with the Camp Director and local authorities if needed.

Implement and manage emergency plans related to facility maintenance, evacuation procedures, and disaster preparedness.

Communicating & Reporting:

Regularly communicate with the Camp Director about ongoing maintenance issues, staffing needs, potential repairs, and any necessary improvements to the camp infrastructure.

Provide daily or weekly reports on site operations, including maintenance logs, safety inspections, and equipment usage.

Special Projects:

Assist in special projects or events that may require additional logistical or maintenance support during the camp season.

TERM:

Seasonal; 40 hours per week beginning early April until camp closing

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

Completion of formal post-secondary / college program of two academic years in related field.

A valid driver's license and provide an original copy of current driver's abstract for review and verification that it is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

WHIMIS

First Aid Certificate

Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

A minimum of two years related experience.

Previous experience in a camp setting and working with children and team leadership is required.

Proficient computer skills.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Obtain a Criminal Background check with vulnerable sector screening through the local police department

Be willing to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry)

Willingness to comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.

Able to take responsibility of personal health and safety in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
