Simulated Patient EducatorPrimary Purpose: The Simulated Patient Educator (SPE) will provide supervision and educational training to Simulated Patients (SPs), Healthcare Professionals (HPs) and Teaching Associates (TAs) for the various curricular sessions and external events supported by the Clinical Learning Resource Centre (CLRC). The SPE will work both independently and as a team member to support the needs of the unit and develop collaborative relationships with the various Health Science colleges and external partners.Nature of Work: Reporting to the Manager of the CLRC, the SPE will work in a simulated health care environment, which requires engaging collaboratively with CLRC college partners and interdisciplinary teams in the development and delivery of their courses or events. The SPE will assist with the development of cases, the recruitment if SPs, HPs or TAs using critical thinking skills to hire the right SP for the right role, and the training of SPs for case portrayals, as required for various events. The SPE will also play an active role in the planning and delivery of Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs) for several Health Science programs. This complex position may experience constant interruptions, changing priorities, strict deadlines, multiple competing demands, addressing multiple complex issues, and possible moderate/heavy physical labor. This is a full-time day position that requires some flexibility in hours and occasional weekend and evening work.Typical Duties or Accountabilities:Management of Simulated Patients, Healthcare Professionals and Teaching Associates

  • Recruitment and training of SPs/HPs/TAs for Health Sciences\' undergraduate and postgraduate courses and exams, and external partner events.
  • Contribute to a safe working environment for SPs/HPs/TAs by following the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE) Standards of Best Practice.
  • Interact collaboratively with internal and external partners in the delivery of events.
  • Assist with the organization of SP recruitment and appreciation events.
Project Management
  • In collaboration with the other SPEs:
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the CLRC team and USask Health Sciences, faculty, staff and students from the programs the CLRC supports, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in program performance evaluation to identify areas for future growth and direction.
Keep apprised of current standards and practices across Canada and internationally, as well as in accordance with ASPE recommendations for Simulated Patient Programs.Education: Post-secondary degree in a related field an asset; a relevant diploma with experience will be considered.Experience: Simulated Patient experience is an asset; 1-3 years\' work experience in a teaching, coaching, theatre, or healthcare professional field preferred; Demonstrated administrative proficiency is essential, including scheduling, recruitment, planning, and managing multiple projects at one time. Working within the customer service industry or other experiences that require exceptional interpersonal skills is beneficial.Skills: Proficiencies in scheduling, planning, and coordinating complex events; highly developed critical thinking and organizational skills; flexibility to meet changing timelines, needs and requirements of programs; excellent written and oral communication; demonstrated collaborative relationship building skills and ability to work effectively with others; ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality required; demonstrated ability in teaching/coaching, including providing feedback; able to take initiative and work independently; demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams required, experience with video based applications such as Zoom and PanOpto is an asset.Department: USask Health Sciences
