Job Description


START DATE: Immediately - Full-time REPORTING TO: Regional Supervisor PLEASE NOTE: This job will require travel throughout multiple cities in your province with the possibility of other cities in your part of the country (For example, if you are located in Vancouver, you will be working throughout BC and possibly Western Canada when needed). PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES: As an S&C Maintainer you will work as part of a team performing moderate to heavy physical labour installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing railroad signalling and communication (S&C) equipment.

  • Installation, wiring, assembly, and maintenance of railway signals and communications equipment
  • Perform trenching for cable distribution and installation of equipment foundations
  • Construction of S&C equipment such as wayside signals, switch machines, crossing warning systems, defect detector systems, etc.
  • Perform regular inspections, testing of operations, and preventative maintenance on various electronic and mechanical S&C equipment
  • Diagnose problems and repair all types of S&C electronic and mechanical systems and devices
  • Perform mechanical relay testing, insulation resistance testing for wires, and testing for electrical shorts to ground.
  • Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Heavy Equipment such as forklifts, backhoe’s, passenger vehicles, 5-ton trucks
  • Report effectively to the S&C Foreman & Superintendent
  • Work well individually, as well as in a team environment, for both construction and maintenance of S&C equipment
  • Maintain documents, records and reports as required

This role is a Safety Sensitive position and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be required. Candidates considered for employment MUST pass all required pre-employment testing and agree to be monitored as prescribed by government rules and regulations governing fitness for duty. As an employee involved in rail operations, impairment in the workplace could result in a significant incident involving the health, wellness, and safety of yourself, your colleagues, and members of the general public.

As a contractor that performs essential railway maintenance and repairs on federally regulated railway rights of way and applicable properties, ALL REMCAN EMPLOYEES MUST meet federal vaccination requirements (2 doses – full vaccination status) and produce supporting documentation.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience installing and/or maintaining S&C systems
  • Basic knowledge of electrical fundamentals - Electrical Technician diploma an asset!
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • Grade 12 diploma required
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Able to produce a driver’s abstract and insurance claims history
  • Able to pass all required railway operating rules examinations
  • Must pass e-Railsafe Canada workforce compliance system
  • First Aid and WHIMIS are assets
  • Able to pass pre-employment medical and drug screening
  • Able to demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised as well as in teams
  • Able to work all types of shifts as required
  • Able to work in various weather conditions all year round (hot & cold)
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote work locations as required
  • Maintain REMCAN safety guidelines & policies at all times
  • Must provide proof of 2 covid-19 vaccinations
