Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Shunt Truck Driver to join our logistics team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently to and from our two locations in Port Elgin, NB and Amherst, NS. This role requires a strong commitment to safety and adherence to all traffic regulations while ensuring timely delivery. The Truck Driver will also be expected to perform basic vehicle inspections and help with loading and unloading.

Responsibilities

Operate and drive trucks to transport goods. Ensure the safe loading and unloading of freight, adhering to weight limits and safety protocols. Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle. Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including mileage, fuel usage, and delivery times. Communicate effectively with dispatchers and plant managers regarding delivery schedules and any issues encountered on the road. Follow all traffic laws and regulations to ensure safety on the road. Perform minor automotive repairs as needed to maintain vehicle functionality. Operate forklifts or other heavy equipment when required for loading or unloading freight.

Skills

Proven experience in commercial driving with a valid commercial driver's license (Class 1). Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation and safety procedures. Ability to operate forklifts safely and efficiently is a plus. Strong communication skills for effective interaction with team members. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
