Position Overview:
The Shop Manager oversees the daily operations of the millwork and furniture production facility. This role ensures that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the company's quality standards. The Shop Manager will lead a team of cabinet makers, installers, and production staff, maintaining a safe, organized, and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Production & Operations
Plan, coordinate, and oversee all shop floor activities, ensuring smooth workflow and timely project completion.
Manage material inventory, production schedules, and job assignments.
Ensure machinery and tools are maintained, serviced, and operated safely.
Monitor quality control throughout all production stages.
Collaborate with the design and installation teams to review drawings, resolve production issues, and ensure project accuracy.
Team Leadership
Supervise and train shop staff, assigning daily tasks and monitoring performance.
Foster a positive, efficient, and safety-conscious work environment.
Conduct regular team meetings to communicate priorities, goals, and deadlines.
Quality & Safety Compliance
Enforce adherence to company safety policies and industry standards.
Conduct regular inspections of the work area, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop layout.
Administration & Coordination
Coordinate with project managers to track progress and update timelines.
Review work orders, production drawings, and specifications for accuracy.
Manage material orders and ensure timely delivery to meet project schedules.
Assist with hiring, scheduling, and evaluating shop employees.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role within a millwork, cabinetmaking, or woodworking environment.
Strong technical understanding of millwork production, woodworking machinery, and construction drawings.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations (OHSA) and best practices.
Proficiency in reading technical drawings and using shop management tools/software (an asset).
