Oversee day-to-day operations within the fabrication, welding and painting departments by actively participating in production work while providing direction and support to the shop floor team. It is the job of the shop floor supervisor to oversee material flow between departments with the goal of ensuring production timelines and meeting customer quality expectations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform hands-on fabrication work including cutting, welding, forming, fitting, assembly, and finishing as required.
Supervise and support a team of fabricators, welders, and machine operators during daily production.
Perform material handling in the shop with operation of a forklift or pump cart.
Provide final sign off on first article inspections to ensure that all dimensions and specifications of the first piece from a new part order.
Plan and delegate worker activities according to production schedule, ensuring that customer and shipping deadlines are met.
Monitor workflow to ensure jobs are progressing efficiently and meeting quality standards.
Participate in recruitment, hiring, performance management, corrective actions and terminations processes.
Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and mentorship to junior team members.
Assist with troubleshooting production issues and resolving bottlenecks.
Work collaboratively with the management team to coordinate the efficient and timely completion of jobs.
Complete basic administrative tasks such as reports, timesheets, and progress updates.
Participate in daily meetings and communicate effectively with both workers and management.
Interpret the engineered drawings to understand the specifics of the required part.
Read and interpret technical diagrams to complete the required weld, using SMAW, GMAW or GTAW.
Build welding fixtures for custom metal products according to specifications provided by, and in consultation with, the engineering department.
Perform inspections on completed parts to ensure conformance with specifications.
Ensure that all workers are working in compliance with all safety regulations.
Track and document job status in Job Boss software and on Work Traveler.
Assist paint department in tasks to decrease lead times.
Operate crane to move parts in/out and to/from machines.
Perform all tasks in accordance with Quality (ISO) manual.
Contribute to the overall cleanliness of the production floor and assist others as required.
Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and abide by all health and safety policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Completion of Grade 12.
Successful completion and maintenance of CWB Weld Tickets.
Organizational skills
Time management skills
Excellent communication skills
3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Knowledge of Geometric Dimension & Tolerance (GD&T) standards.
Forklift certified (or capacity to operate a forklift).
Must successfully complete crane training.
Ability to use basic measuring devices (square, calipers, verniers, measuring tape)
