Job Description

Peace By Chocolate is a Canadian owned chocolate company selling premium, locally made chocolate bars and artisanal truffles, along with other treats, drinks, and merchandise.



This position is responsible for oversight of the Shipping/Receiving Department. As a key member of the HACCP team, the Shipping & Receiving Manager plays a vital role in supporting and maintaining our food safety programs, ensuring that all incoming and outgoing goods meet company, regulatory, and food safety standards. This position works days, from Monday to Friday. This position works under the direct supervision of the CEO. Travel is required on a weekly basis and is typically of a local nature. Overtime regularly occurs, may be last minute in nature, and when required is a condition of continued employment.

1. Department Management & Leadership



Manage all aspects of the Shipping & Receiving Department. Establish daily and weekly objectives for staff, ensuring priorities are communicated clearly. Provide technical direction, mentoring, and coaching to team members. Supervise and train staff to maintain optimal performance and efficiency. Conduct performance reviews and foster a positive, safe, and compliant work environment.

2. Shipping Operations



Pick, assemble, and pack wholesale and e-commerce orders with accuracy and attention to quality. Perform quality assurance checks before shipping products. Prepare and print shipping labels using ShipStation (or Warehouse Management System software as required). Maintain effective communication with drivers, couriers, and logistics providers, ensuring timely pickups and accurate delivery schedules. Collaborate with third-party logistics (3PL) providers to streamline operations.

3. Receiving Operations & Inventory Control



Unload and inspect incoming deliveries, checking for order completeness, shelf life, and product quality. Review, sign, and record delivery slips and packing slips, ensuring accuracy of received goods. Track and record lot numbers for raw materials to support traceability. Organize pallets and stock in the warehouse, ensuring efficient layout and flow. Oversee inventory levels, ensuring timely replenishment and accurate stock records. Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to manage inventory,shipments, and logistics.

4. Health, Safety, and Compliance



Ensure all warehouse staff follow safe work practices and PPE requirements (smock, hairnet, beard net, cut-resistant gloves, steel-toed boots). Immediately report and document any workplace incidents in line with company policy. Participate in bi-weekly consultations with managers to update factory safe work procedures. Ensure compliance with OHS regulations and maintain a safe working environment. Oversee mechanical knowledge requirements of warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks and forklifts.

5. Food Safety & Audit Participation



Serve as an active member of the HACCP team. Participate in mock recall exercises and crisis management activities. Support and provide assistance during annual SQF audits. Contribute to internal audits by preparing documentation, leading corrective actions, and ensuring ongoing compliance. Actively uphold company food safety programs and regulatory standards for all shipping and receiving processes.

6. Other Duties



Participate in OHS training sessions and factory safety committee meetings. Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency in shipping, receiving, and warehouse distribution. Perform other duties as assigned, using effective time management and prioritization skills.

Skills Required



Warehouse & Logistics:

Strong knowledge of shipping/receiving processes, inventory control, traceability, and coordination with drivers, couriers, and 3PL providers.

Food Safety & Compliance:

Familiarity with HACCP, SQF, GMP requirements, and participation in audits, mock recalls, and OHS programs.

Leadership & Management:

Proven ability to supervise, train, and mentor staff; set objectives; resolve conflicts; and drive process improvements.

Technical Tools:

Proficiency with ShipStation or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS); basic knowledge of warehouse equipment (pallet jacks, forklifts).

Communication & Organization:

Clear written and verbal communication; strong teamwork, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions:



PPE is required at all times while working in the factory to maintain food safety and ensure workplace safety compliance. Provided by the company: smock, hairnet, beard net, and cut-resistant gloves. Employee must provide: CSA-approved steel-toed work boots.

Physical Requirements:



Ability to lift up to 20 kg (approximately 44 lbs). Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Frequent bending and reaching. Moving and handling pallets as part of daily duties. Comfortable with heights/ladders

Pay: $20.00-$26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 48 per week
