We are seeking an experienced and motivated Maintenance Supervisor to lead and coordinate maintenance activities during a 12-hour shift at a railcar manufacturing facility. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment, facilities, and utilities by supervising maintenance personnel, prioritizing work orders, and responding to breakdowns in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
The successful candidate will provide hands-on leadership, enforce safety and quality standards, and support continuous improvement initiatives to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all maintenance activities in compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, company policies, and applicable rail and industrial safety standards
Promote a strong safety culture through toolbox talks, hazard identification, and incident investigations
Ensure lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, and other critical safety procedures are followed
Support audits and regulatory inspections as required
Supervise day-to-day maintenance activities for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
Coordinate corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime
Respond to urgent breakdowns, troubleshoot issues, and allocate resources to restore production quickly
Review completed work orders for quality, accuracy, and compliance
Supervise and support maintenance technicians and trades during the shift
Assign work, set priorities, and monitor workload to ensure effective coverage across the facility
Provide coaching, on-the-job training, and performance feedback
Support onboarding of new employees and ensure required certifications are current
Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to align maintenance priorities with manufacturing schedules
Communicate shift handovers clearly, including equipment status, outstanding issues, and safety concerns
Assist with maintenance planning, spare parts usage, and inventory control
Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions
Participate in root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives
Support continuous improvement programs
Contribute to updates of standard operating procedures and maintenance documentation
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 5-8 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
Previous supervisory or lead-hand experience preferred
Strong working knowledge of industrial equipment, including mechanical and electrical systems
Solid understanding of Ontario health and safety regulations
Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule
Experience in railcar manufacturing, transportation equipment, or heavy fabrication environments is preferred, but not required
Licensed trade (Millwright 433A, Electrician 442A/309A) or equivalent experience is considered an asset
Familiarity with CMMS systems
Experience working in a unionized environment
Strong leadership and decision-making skills under pressure
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
Clear verbal and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
Proficient with computers and maintenance tracking systems
Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures
Ability to stand, walk, climb, and lift as required
Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating schedule
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $46.39 per hour
Expected hours: 36 - 48 per week
