Working for Pembina means working safely.Overview:PKM Canada Marine Terminal LP (Vancouver Wharves Terminal) is currently recruiting for an Operations Shift Superintendent to join the team. This position reports to the Manager, Berth Operations in the Natural Gas Liquids Business Unit (NBU), part of Pembina\'s Facilities Division. Located in one of the busiest port cities in North America, our Vancouver Wharves\' location is one of the largest terminals on the West Coast and handles both liquids and bulk products including mineral concentrates, diesel, Sulphur, and grain products on behalf of customers.The Operations Shift Superintendent acts as the management \xe2\x80\x9cPerson in Charge\xe2\x80\x9d of all day-to-day activities at the terminal including, but not limited to, safety, quality, environmental compliance (SQE); operations; maintenance; planning and 3rd party service providers. The role works closely with Managers, SSEM staff, Operations Coordinators, Operations Logistics Analysts, 3rd party stakeholders, ILWU Foremen, and ILWU Longshore personnel to provide safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible terminal services to customers.Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Actively participate in all SQE programs including: daily planning meetings, weekly production meetings, weekly/monthly safety meetings, weekly/monthly management meetings, senior management meetings, incident investigations and follow up, safety and operational audits by field presence & Employee Demonstrated Checklists (EDC), Management By Walking Around (MBWA), compliance with corporate safety, quality and environmental policies, toolbox meetings, accident/incident investigations including corrective actions;
  • Monitor and manage individual performance ensuring Foremen, Longshore and Pembina employees are meeting expectations and are held accountable through the implementation and enforcement of policies that meet, or exceed, corporate, local, and federal regulations and policies;
  • Plan and manage all day-to-day terminal operations including: manning requirements, Foremen\'s instructions daily toolbox forms, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), equipment checklists, dual verification procedures and EDC, production reports & work permits;
  • Perform all work within established SQE standards such as our Dual Verification Procedure to maintain the integrity of cargo movements and the safety of workers and equipment. Willingly and open-mindedly adapt to changes needed to achieve optimum terminal results;
  • Lead the daily SQE meeting and ensure that all operational, maintenance and project needs have been identified and communicated to the operating Foremen and impacted Longshore;
  • Lead the daily planning meeting to ensure all departments know the terminal operating plan and that all shift labor requirements have been determined and ordered accordingly by established cut-off times;
  • Oversee the dispatch of employees at shift change to ensure appropriate crews are in place and assigned to work in an efficient manner;
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and directing realistic firm-yet-fair objectives for Foremen and help them achieve these desired results;
  • Participate in the development process of annual operating and capital budgets and effectively manage and assign operations consistent with achieving these budget goals;
  • Effectively interface with customer representatives, regulatory agencies, PKM staff, Union and BCMEA personnel, and other terminal stakeholders as required;
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with Local 500 Business Agents and Local 514 Shop Stewards;
  • Participate in the continuous improvement process to further develop terminal business objectives;
  • Ensure all Federal, Provincial, and Corporate regulations and policies are adhered to taking immediate corrective action where non-compliance is found;
  • Stop any activity that could lead to an SQE incident;

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of progressive management/supervisory responsibilities, with relevant experience in operations management of unionized work sites considered an asset;
  • The incumbent will hold a degree in business, engineering (or related discipline), equivalent marine academy/transportation/engineering diploma, or a combination of equivalent experience and education. TQ certification, particularly Mechanical or Electrical, will also be considered an asset;
  • Working knowledge of bulk terminal operations and related safety procedures, standards, and environmental regulations;
  • Proven supervisory experience effectively managing people and assets in a manner that ensures overall success and promotes a team attitude and positive working environment;
  • Experience related to goal setting, performance management, incident investigation (including root cause analysis and corrective actions), work permits, developing written procedures, Job Hazard Analysis, Dual Verification, operations and maintenance safe work procedures, fiscal responsibility, and budget planning;
  • Environmental regulations and compliance experience;
  • Effective communication skills, good business acumen, demonstrated leadership capability, strong organizational and problem-solving experience and knowledge of cost analysis and control methodology;
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook;
  • Well-balanced interpersonal skills and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills;
  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks are essential;
  • Problem solver with the ability to find resolutions and make critical decisions;
  • Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision;
  • Flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies; and
  • Able to work shifts and alternate shift schedules to provide 24/7 terminal management.
This position is considered \xe2\x80\x9cSafety Sensitive\xe2\x80\x9d so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing. You may also be required to provide a Driver\'s Abstract.BC Pay Transparency Requirement: The base salary range for this position is $154,800.00 CAD to $172,000.00 CAD. Actual total compensation may differ based on candidate\'s qualifications and location.The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position.
