The Superintendent, Shift (Mail Processing) is accountable for the safe and efficient management of the total mail processing operation so that service commitments, safety requirements and productivity standards are met during the assigned shift.

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Superintendent, Shift (Mail Processing).

  • Directs all mail processing operations during the assigned shift to ensure that plant operating targets and production standards are met or exceeded. Regularly conducts quality checks and analyzes production reports to assess efficiency of operations. Implements contingency plans when required to maintain productivity.
  • Promotes and implements work place safety and health programs and processes for their work unit. Oversees the return-to-work and accommodation of employees. May chair or participate as a member of the local health and safety committee.
  • Directs, coaches and provides guidance and leadership to a team of more than fifty employees and supervisors and is responsible for all human resources processes related to the management of the workforce. Promotes a respectful environment in the workplace. Resolves staff issues. Consults with Labour Relations and/or union representatives on the application of the terms of the collective agreement. Creates learning and knowledge transfer opportunities for assigned staff.
  • Leads implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to improve service, to reduce costs and accident potential. Communicates to supervisors and employees new or modified policies, regulations and procedures and responds to concerns.
Job Responsibilities (continued)
  • Develops and implements work schedules to ensure efficient and effective mail processing. Adjusts work assignments and schedules to meet fluctuations in workload.
  • Identifies and recommends modifications in methods and/or equipment to improve production or reduce costs. Recommends acquisitions and relocation of operational equipment. Promptly responds to equipment failures.
  • Communicates frequently with the previous and post-shift Superintendents. Provides a brief \xe2\x80\x9crecap\xe2\x80\x9d of key activities performed and discusses any anomalies that occurred during the shift.
  • Participates in the planning, development and achievement of annual plant objectives and manages the approved budget for his/her area.
Qualifications

Education
  • High School diploma or provincial equivalent (GED) (Equivalent Experience, as defined below, may be accepted in lieu of a High School Diploma).
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years\' experience as a supervisor in mail processing.
OR
  • Minimum 4 years\' experience managing a team within a unionized environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
