Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Facilities Shift Supervisor, the incumbent works independently to perform routine or preventative maintenance tasks on hospital buildings, equipment, lighting systems building services equipment, furnishings and components. Responds to emergency calls throughout the Centre, making repairs as required or contacting appropriate personnel when confronted with tasks beyond their capabilities. REMARKS: This position requires an extensive knowledge of general maintenance work and building systems within the Centre and detailed knowledge of some of the trades utilized at the Centre. This position requires shift work. By nature of a shift schedule, direct supervision will be infrequent. The Shift Mechanic must possess the ability and initiative to ensure he is pursuing bona fide duties at all times throughout the shift. This is not a "standby position".

Experience

• Five years experience in several facets of the Maintenance of buildings, equipment, furnishings and components and building service equipment required (e.g. repair of heating/cooling systems, fans, pumps, etc.).

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

• Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
• Completion of a recognized Industrial Mechanic/Millwright or Power Engineer, plumber/fitter curriculum preferred.
• Some electrical experience/training desirable.

Qualifications and Skills

• Must have excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements

• Good Physical and mental health and manual dexterity.
• Must be able to withstand short periods of strenuous activity and be able to work in confined spaces and enclosures.
• Must be capable of working off ladders, and other equipment at various heights.
