JOB SUMMARY



You will work within one of the four Employment and Social Services sites to work within a multi-disciplinary setting providing support and services to families, couples and individuals who are experiencing homeless. You will be assessing and coordination of emergency temporary shelter to Ottawa's homeless sector. You will assist clients with various applications, direct clients to appropriate resources, provide assistance and explain procedure for shelter eligibility. You will respond to phone inquiries, provide client information for statical purposes, and maintain client information within multiple databases. You are the first point of contact for the Ontario Works case workers for supporting client needs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



Completion of Grade 12
Community college diploma or university degree in a related field is desirable
Minimum of 1 year of related experience in a social services setting

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES


Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates are assets
Crisis Prevention/Intervention training certificate is an asset

KNOWLEDGE


Community resources Issues affecting homeless persons, families and women fleeing abuse Strong knowledge of Ottawa's shelter system and supporting agencies Social services agencies and programs City of Ottawa policies and procedures, departmental policies and procedures Case management process for shelters Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers Training on HIFIS is desirable

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW


Language Requirement: Designated Day 1 Ready - immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire. Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
