Overview
The Shelter Support Worker plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis situations. This position is essential for maintaining a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment within the shelter. The Shelter Support Worker will engage with residents, help them navigate available resources, and promote a sense of community among shelter participants.
Duties
• Supervise daily activities within the shelter to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
• Assist residents with accessing services such as housing, employment, and healthcare.
• Conduct intake assessments and maintain accurate records of resident interactions and progress.
• Facilitate group meetings and activities to encourage resident engagement and community building.
• Provide emotional support and guidance to residents facing challenges.
• Collaborate with other staff members to develop individualized support plans for residents.
• Enforce shelter rules and policies while maintaining a compassionate approach.
• Respond to emergencies or crises in a calm and effective manner.
Requirements
• Previous experience in social services, counseling, or related fields is preferred.
• Strong supervisory skills with the ability to lead by example.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse populations.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being self-motivated.
• Knowledge of community resources available for individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis situations is an asset.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
• A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
