Overview


The Shelter Support Worker plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis situations. This position involves working directly with guests to ensure their safety, well-being, and access to necessary resources. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, patient, and dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of those they serve.

Responsibilities



Provide direct support to shelter guests, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. Assist guests in accessing services such as housing, healthcare, and employment resources. Conduct intake assessments and maintain accurate records of guest interactions and progress. Monitor the shelter environment for safety concerns and address any issues promptly. Provide crisis intervention as needed, offering emotional support and guidance to guests. Uphold confidentiality standards while respecting the dignity of all individuals served.

Requirements



Previous experience in social services, counseling, or a related field is preferred but not required. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations. Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment. Knowledge of community resources related to homelessness and social services is a plus. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as needed. A commitment to advocating for the rights and needs of vulnerable populations.
