A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SHEET METAL APPRENTICE
As a Sheet Metal Apprentice, you are eager to help our construction projects team on various sites from new commercial buildings to the major retrofitting of existing structures. Using blueprints, you plan, lay out, and determine where to install sheet metal products and parts. When measuring materials, you skillfully use rulers, calculators, and squares. You carefully fasten joints and seams in sheet metal with solder, welds, caulk, bolts, and metal driver clips. Some assemblies you install include pipes, HVAC ducts, flashings, rain gutters, and furnace casings in supportive frameworks. To create a seamless appearance of parts that have been assembled, you use hand and power tools to trim, buff, smooth, file, and grind metal joints. Following specifications, you select the appropriate type and gauge of sheet metal for each project. As you work, you demonstrate strong situational awareness in order to prevent injuries to yourself and to others while on the job sites. You are excited to be part of our team and can't wait to advance your knowledge and skills!
