Job Description


The Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Officer (the \xe2\x80\x9cOfficer\xe2\x80\x9d) is responsible for leading prevention and educational initiatives related to sexual violence across the University. The Officer will be responsible for developing and delivering training across the University committee related to sexual violence and related issues. The Officer will report to Human Director Counsel who provides leadership to the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office and work in a team with other staff working in the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office and within the Department of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Human Rights.RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads efforts to continue to develop and operationalize a campus wide sexual violence prevention and education plan using trauma informed and intersectional approaches
  • Development of educational materials, including but not limited to: in person presentations, online training, posters, campaigns, social media content
  • Remain current on sexual and gender-based violence prevention research and legislation, provincial strategy and initiatives, and national trends
  • Research and review current best practices in sexual violence outreach and education in other post-secondary institutions and utilize this information in the planning, development, and implementation of educational initiatives
  • Develop and deliver training targeted toward a variety of populations, including but not limited to, student leaders, faculty, and staff
  • Coordinate sexualized violence prevention training activities including: bystander intervention training, what is consent? training, and training on violence against women/gender-based violence
  • Works with campus stakeholders, and leads training initiatives to increase campus community understanding of the university\'s Sexual Violence Policy
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and student organizations to identify opportunities and address continuing and emerging campus needs on issues related to sexualized violence
  • Develops and supports relationships and partnerships cross-departmentally
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of sexual and gender-based violence
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in designing and delivering training workshops related to sexualized violence prevention, awareness, and response
  • Lived experience or expertise in diversity and inclusion an asset
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviours, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds
  • Experience working with survivors of sexual violence and/or advocacy to end gender based violence an asset
  • Communication skills to effectively engage community members on what can often be contentious or delicate issues
  • Bachelors Degree in a related discipline (such as Women\'s Studies, Gender Studies, Human Rights, Sociology, Equity Studies, Psychology, Education)
  • A minimum of three years\' experience in areas related to sexual violence prevention, education, or similar initiatives
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Microsoft Word and strong command of PowerPoint
  • Experience posting and creating promotional materials for social media
  • Basic knowledge of adding content to websites using Moodle, SharePoint, MyUPEI or similar an asset
