Set-Up Technician - Trainee





Objective



To build foundational skills and knowledge in plastic extrusion equipment setup and support production uptime through hands-on technical training. This is a development-focused role designed to prepare individuals for advancement to a certified Set-Up Technician (Level C) position.

Responsible for:



Support senior technicians in preparing machines for production runs.

Learn to read and interpret setup sheets, blueprints, and specifications.

Gather and organize tools, dies, and materials needed for setups.

Observe and learn proper machine operation procedures.

Help monitor equipment performance and report issues promptly.

Assist in performing basic quality checks during and after setup.

Learn to identify and correct minor setup errors.

Expected Results



Lockout/tagout safety procedures

Material handling and blend preparation

Basic machine cleaning and part installation

Equipment startup and shutdown procedures

Reading dockets, drawings, and setup instructions

ERP systems (basic functions)

Fundamental troubleshooting concepts

General Responsibilities



Participate in a structured onboarding and technical training program

Learn to safely support extrusion line set-ups and machine changeovers under supervision

Assist in preparing materials, cleaning equipment, and performing basic maintenance tasks

Understand and follow safety, quality, and production procedures

Collaborate with experienced Set-Up Technicians and Operators to solve problems and optimize line performance

Maintain clean work areas and support good housekeeping practices

Supporting production and shifts as needed, including but not limited to

learning production, inclusive of running lines

supply gathering, supply return

measuring skills, learning various hand/power tools

quality process training

Qualifications



High school diploma (OSSD) or equivalent

Mechanically inclined - previous hands-on experience or technical hobbies (e.g., auto repair, fabrication, mechanics) is an asset

Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Reliable and punctual

Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods

WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain)

Comfortable working shifts (12-hour, continental schedule)
