Course number and title: GLA2080HF-Topics in Innovation I: Where Great Ideas Come From-The Evolving Geography of Startups and Innovation

Course description:

Think startups and you\'ll most likely think of San Francisco and its neighbouring Silicon Valley. For decades it has been the world\'s focal point for startups, venture capital and global tech firms. However smart people are everywhere, and thanks to the confluence of ubiquitous Internet access and a ravenous investor demand for returns, those smart people now have the opportunity to build and grow the types of startups once thought reserved for the Valley and its imitators. This course explores this evolving geography of where globally competitive startups are emerging, be it in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and beyond, digs into what\'s behind their emergence, and questions what it means for us and them.

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $10,570.02

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Political Economy with a focus on Innnovation.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous teaching experience in this field is preferred.

Description of duties: Developing the syllabus, teaching one 2-hour lecture per week at the graduate level, providing weekly office hours for academic counseling of students, preparing and delivering course material; preparing and delivering assignments and tests; marking student work and submitting grades.
