Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to provide students with a fundamental background and basic skill set to understand the real estate development business and its interrelationships with urban planning. The course provides an overview of the real estate development industry, the development process, and the planning process. It covers the financial basis for development projects, the participants, the market search procedures and the financing of development. It also addresses the interface of the industry with the public sector. The course attempts to provide some understanding of the complexity surrounding real estate development and will introduce a level of quantitative and qualitative thinking sufficient to deal with the myriad of decisions that confront the real estate developer.

Qualifications:

Expert knowledge and professional experience in real estate development and the planning process is required, preferably in both the public and private sectors. A graduate degree in planning, real estate development or a related discipline is required. Previous graduate level teaching experience would be considered an asset.

Brief description of duties:

Preparing course outline, syllabi and lectures; developing and administering grading, course assignments, tests and exams; exam invigilation; holding regular office hours and submitting all final grades.
