Description: In this course students will analyze business cases, read academic studies, and interact with guest lecturers to gain familiarity with the major challenges that entrepreneurs encounter in successfully bringing innovations to market. Topics to be addressed include market and industry analysis, managing value chains, competing and positioning in the marketplace, negotiating for and obtaining financial resources, defining a business model, writing a business plan, and growth and exit strategies.
In addition to more "traditional" lectures, there will be a number of guest lectures, especially in the second half of the course, provided from practitioners in different areas of interest, including current entrepreneurs, technologists, early-stage investors, and IP lawyers.
Number of positions: One (1) position
Estimated course enrolment: 50 Students
Class schedule: 1 (2 hour block weekly Mondays 17:00-19:00)
Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2023 - April 30, 2023
Salary: Minimum $8,489.67 as per CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement (includes 4% vacation)

Qualifications: Preferred qualifications are an advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) in a relevant discipline (completed), or for non-University of Toronto graduate students, in progress, or relevant qualifications, professional designation or professional experience; an MBA is highly preferable. We are seeking previous experience in teaching, teaching excellence, and mastery of subject area. Previous experience in teaching a similar course is highly desirable.
Description of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams, calculation and submission of grades, holding regular office hours and maintaining reasonable availability for student contact. Liaise with Director of MBiotech and other IMI faculty in development and delivery of course.
