The Paul J. Hill School of Business at the University of Regina invites applications for one Sessional Lecturer to teach the following in person course during the Fall 2024 semester:

BUS 385: Intermediate Financial Accounting I
This course continues and builds upon the study of financial accounting begun in BUS 285. It extends students\xe2\x80\x99 understanding of generally accepted accounting principles through an in-depth examination of asset, liability and shareholders\xe2\x80\x99 equity valuation, and income measurement and financial statement analysis. It provides a greater awareness of the underlying rationale of existing practice and an appreciation of the characteristics and limitations of accounting.

The Fall 2024 semester class period is from September 4, 2024 to December 6, 2024 with the final exam period running from December 9 to 21, 2024. Maximum enrollment for this course is 48 and a Teacher Assistant may be provided if requested and available.

Sessional Lecturers that are teaching in person classes are expected to teach 26 synchronous classes throughout the semester in person on campus.

Expectations for Sessional Lecturers include, but aren\xe2\x80\x99t limited to, the following:
  • Preparing the course outline, designing relevant assignments, evaluating and grading student work, and submitting student grades on time;
  • Preparing content for the accounting lab associated with this course;
  • Teaching course content that follows the course description, established learning objectives, and university academic guidelines;
  • Delivering 26 75-minute lectures throughout the semester (unless otherwise discussed with the Associate Dean);
  • Encouraging and maintaining a safe and collaborative classroom environment;
  • Providing regular support to students on course work as required before and after each class, during office hours, and as required by students;
  • Meeting all submission deadlines as outlined by the Hill School of Business;
  • Consulting with the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) on academic or student-related matters as needed; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Graduate and/or PhD/doctorate degree in a discipline relevant to the course subject area (note that a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree coupled with relevant professional business experience may also be considered);
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation;
  • Superior communication skills (both written and verbal);
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with respect to academic reporting; and
  • Recent teaching experience in a post-secondary environment considered an asset.
Physical Demands Pay Grade Faculty Sessional Salary Range As per URFA Collective Agreement Status Term Work Hours
This course is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
The Sessional Lecturer is expected to teach on campus for each of the 26 lectures, be in the classroom 10-15 minutes before each class starts, as well as offer regular office hours for their students each week
