An introduction to, and implementation of, a framework for the design process, which is used to teach in context, problem solving, professional communication, and team skills. Students are introduced to design, communication, and teamwork as integral and inter-related components of engineering practice. Building on the first course, this second course in the two Engineering Strategies and Practice course sequence introduces students to project management, oral professional communication, and to the design process in greater depth. Students work in teams on a term length design project. Students will write a series of team based and individual engineering reports and give a team based design project oral presentation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum bachelors degree in Engineering or related field. The candidate is required to attend a weekly 1-hour teaching team meeting. Excellent communication skills are required. Ability to facilitate team discussion and mediate team conflict. Ability to coach junior engineering students (In person).
Duties:
The EM role is to help teams develop their professionalism, project management skills, and team strategies. Duties include:
1. Oversee the design project for each team on a weekly basis:
a. Participate in weekly tutorials.
b. Provide guidance and observe students in tutorials.
c. Meet individually with student teams to discuss status reports.
d. Provide timely and detailed feedback on documents and presentations.
e. Assess performance of individual team members.
2. Collaborate with Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Course Instructors
3. Participate in weekly teaching team meetings and provide updates.
