Position Description

The School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), Division of Dance invites applications for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in the Spring and Summer 2023.

Lectures for the Spring 2023 term run from May 3 to June 15, and lectures for the summer 2023 term run from June 26 to August 8; however, some course offerings may run for three weeks rather than six weeks. Individual course dates are noted below; please see the academic schedule for additional important dates and deadlines.

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING COURSE OFFERINGS ARE TENTATIVE, PENDING SUFFICIENT ENROLMENTS.

Spring 2023

DNCE 206.06: Topics in Dance Forms (South Asian Dance)

Course dates: May 3 to June 15, 2023
Monday through Thursdays 10:00 - 11:45
Course description: An introduction to South Asian Dance (Bollywood). Designed for non-Dance majors.

DNCE 343: Special Topics Dance Practices (DJD Internship Jazz Technique)

Course dates: May 25 to June 15, 2023
Monday through Friday, 09:00 - 12:00, offsite
Course description: Jazz Technique dance practice

Summer 2023

DNCE 206.02: Topics in Dance Forms (Latin Dance)

Course dates: June 26 to August 8, 2023
Monday through Thursdays 13:00 - 14:45
Course description: An introduction to Latin Dance. Designed for non-Dance majors.

DNCE 221: Introductory Ballet I

Course dates: June 26 to August 8, 2023
Monday through Thursdays 10:00 - 11:45
Course description: Introductory study of the techniques of ballet.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Possession of a Master\'s or Bachelor\'s degree in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with dance emphasis.
• Professional experience recognized by peers in the field
• Outstanding professional achievement or substantial training in the field specified in the job announcement.
• Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities.
• Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level.

Desirable Skills and Abilities:

• Energy, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence in teaching.
• The willingness to work with students having a wide range of skills, varying abilities, motivations, and academic or vocational goals.
• The ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
• The ability to use instructional strategies designed for diverse learning styles and academic goals.
• Demonstrable knowledge of current literature on dance.
