The Department of Music at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a sessional instructor(s) to teach two three-credit-hour courses (Music 1170 & 2170) in Aural Skills for the Winter 2023 semester. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: all courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
MUS 1170 - Aural Skills II
This course aims to develop comprehensive musical fluency: a thinking ear and a hearing mind. Students work toward mastery of fundamental musicianship skills, including perception and performance of diatonic melodic material; perception and performance of non-complex rhythms in all meters; and basic contextual listening, ensemble, and improvisation.
MUS 2170 - Aural Skills IV
This course aims to develop advanced musicianship skills, including perception and performance of chromatic and modulating melodies; non-traditional and atonal collections; and complex rhythms. Advanced contextual listening, ensemble, improvisation and natural phenomena, and techniques of dimensional analysis will also be introduced.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant(s) will hold a minimum of a Master's Degree with significant experience in the practice of music theory and/or aural skills.
Members of the Department of Music's Sessional Roster will be given priority in consideration for this position.
