The Department of Economics invites applications for a sessional instructor to teach ECON 3710 / KINE 3710: The Economics of Sports in the Winter 2026 term. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Course Details:

• Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 11:30 AM - 12:20 PM
• Delivery: In-person
• Enrollment Limit: 50 (current enrollment: 42)

Course Description:
This course uses economic analysis to examine a variety of aspects of the business of sports. Topics include the structure of sports markets, the value of franchises to owners and cities, competitive balance, salaries, collective agreements, and discrimination. In examining these issues, the course draws on labour economics, industrial organization and competition policy, cost-benefit/game theory, public finance, and urban economics.
Responsibilities:
The instructor will be responsible for course delivery, preparation of teaching materials, student evaluation, and maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications:
Applicants should hold at least an MA (PhD preferred) in Economics or a closely related discipline and demonstrate evidence of successful teaching experience in relevant subject areas. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the Economics Sessional Roster and to full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
