Purpose of the position Are you a passionate and experienced UX Designer who wants to help change education? SMART Technologies wants you! We invented the SMART Board and established its use in education around the world. Today we provide highly interactive large touchscreen displays used in classrooms and boardrooms around the world. We are looking for a UX Designer to join our talented UX team and create engaging, interactive experiences that push the boundaries of how we learn, share, and engage. Reporting to the Manager, User Experience, you will be responsible for creating design specifications for SMART interactive displays and complementary software with a focus on delivering a positive customer experience. You will work closely with our Product Management, Product Development, and User Research teams. Our Team SMART is very user-focused, and we validate our designs directly with teachers, school administrators and working professionals. We look for candidates who are curious, love to learn from users at every opportunity, and strive to delight them in everything they create. We create software for interfaces ranging from large touchscreen displays to notebooks and mobile devices. Ideal candidates have demonstrable experience with multiple platforms and deep knowledge in several. We’re looking for candidates who can take ownership in their product areas and are not afraid to challenge the system if you see inefficiency. Responsibilities and accountabilities

• Lead the design of a major software product or cross-product design initiative
• Work with Product Management to define product requirements, drive alignment efforts around user needs, and advocate for the prioritization of features that benefit our users
• Plan user research in advance and drive research results into product designs and roadmaps
• Create design specifications for development teams and collaborate on design adjustments during implementation
• Compellingly communicate the user experience at various stages of the design process with wireframes, flow diagrams, storyboards, mockups, prototypes, and high-fidelity visual designs
• Execute design work with a high standard for quality within time and technical constraints amid competing priorities and ambiguous situations
• Lead the improvement of user experience methodologies and processes
• Mentor team members and develop processes for effective design practice
• Participate in the development process from definition, through design, build, test, release, and maintenance.
• Collaborate with multiple teams. Designing for cross-platform foundational features.

Education and work experience

• Strong portfolio of design work showing how you’ve solved problems for the user preferably for Android base platform.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a focus on human-computer interaction, user interface design, human factors, visual design, industrial design, or related area
• 6+ years of working experience in user experience design, product design, or interaction design
• Excellent knowledge of user-centered design methodologies, including depth in at least two interaction models and platforms
• Experience designing for embedded Android platforms and products, and integration with the Google ecosystem for education.
• Experience and deep understanding of Google’s Material design and Android design guidelines.
• Strong ownership of each of your product areas; ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment
• Expertise with design and prototyping tools and applications (Sketch preferred)
• Demonstrated experience in being able to evolve and innovate design processes
• Strong command of all aspects and levels of interaction/UX design from information architecture to systems and workflows to micro-interactions
• Deep knowledge of user research and various usability validation methodologies
• Excellent communication skills, including written and oral presentation skills
• Intensely curious, creatively inclined, technically accomplished
• Self-starter with strong prioritization, organization, and process optimization skills
• Strong time management skills and ability to work with little to no supervision
• A positive and resilient personality; able to embrace feedback and have a desire for continuous iteration and improvement
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects of varying timelines, complexity, and scope
• Experience with agile development processes is a plus
