Your primary responsibilities include assisting Senior Relationship Managers and Business Development Managers with the client onboarding experience and co-managing a small portfolio. Your value proposition also includes identifying revenue opportunities and anticipating a client\'s future needs. You will report to the Diversified Director, Central Underwriting.You are considered an expert lender with an in-depth understanding of your institution\xe2\x80\x99s credit risk appetite and possess definitive experience in structuring complex credits for clients in the Diversified and Real Estate industries. Your internal Credit and Sales partners trust you in your abilities and guidance.In addition to performing your core responsibilities, your experience will be leveraged by others on the Central Underwriting Team and various ATB Project teams. While this is not a customer facing role, you are expected to join or lead client meetings periodically and consult with non-ATB professionals throughout Alberta.AccountabilitiesYou are accountable to maintain exceptional portfolio health via the following activities:

  • Partner in first line of defense for risk management.
  • Make sound credit recommendations for high value clients maintaining risk exposures in excess of $10 million.
  • Comfortable working independently and regarded by peers as an expert lender.
  • Work at the ground level on new credit requests. You are an equal participant with Sales to help grow the portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the Relationship Manager to assess risk and profitability and underwrite quality applications; by performing a thorough financial analysis and recommending appropriate credit structures.
  • Considered an expert in analyzing cash flow and testing assumptions in projections.
  • Ensure overall loan quality and supporting documentation is within the acceptable ATB measures and identify any cross-selling opportunities while maintaining adherence to established service level agreements.
  • Experience with standard and non-standard margining protocol, Early Warnings Signal\xe2\x80\x99s and Covenants, including the ability to communicate defined meaning behind each to our partners so that they are easily measurable and understood.
  • An in-depth understanding of security because this role is jointly responsible for the accuracy of ATB security documents.
  • Ability to travel within Alberta to meet with high value clients/site visits.
  • Maintain formal networks with partner roles in credit and portfolio management teams.
  • An informal leader and sometimes mentor, who shares ideas and knowledge with the Underwriting and Sales teams.
  • Represent ATB by attending industry networking events, focusing on developing industry connections and market intelligence.
Skills, experience & requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in business or a related field. Candidates may be considered based on a combination of education and related experience.
  • More than 5 years of Underwriting experience.
  • Effective communication skills and has demonstrated the ability to support/build relationships with clients and Relationship Managers.
  • Exceptional analytical capability and financial acumen with proven ability to develop financial analysis of mid to large organizations and complex business issues.
  • Excellent priority management with capability to manage multiple transactions, initiatives to meet the needs of the client, internal partners, while mitigating risk.
  • Advanced problem solving skills and ability to take initiative to find and execute innovative solutions.
  • Ability to present complex issues effectively at all levels in the organization and effectively influence others.
