Position Summary:
This is an excellent opportunity to take the next step as a Casualty underwriter in today's competitive marketplace. The position empowers the Senior Underwriter to deploy capital in accordance with Berkley's underwriting appetite, continue to build and utilize your analytical and market-facing skills in a differentiated manner to create unique solutions for our broker and client base. This position primarily focuses on Mid-Market Canadian Companies in all regions of the country. What will your typical day look like?Underwrites new and renewal business submissions ensuring proper risk selection, endorsements and pricing while adhering to underwriting authority.
Responsible for individual profitable growth and management of a portion of department premium, as assigned.
Independently establishes and maintains effective relationships with Brokers and generates opportunities.
Negotiates pricing, terms and conditions for proposed insurance contracts.
Attends and actively engages in client meetings, comes prepared with well researched questions and communicates effectively with the client.
Will take an active approach to off-cycle client-engagement to build Berkley Canada brand reputation
Works with a sense of urgency and meets deadlines.
Handles complex policy administration including manuscripts, and other custom requests. Works with legal and claims teams to ensure proper execution.
Works both independently and collaboratively to assess risk.
Adheres to all authority/underwriting guidelines.
Performs file audits of individual risks for compliance with company guidelines and reinsurance conditions.
Stays informed and up to date on any changes, trends, news, legal developments that may impact the Casualty product line.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Characteristics:Bachelors' degree
Minimum of 3 years of experience as an underwriter dealing with complex accounts
Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge for Property and Casualty lines
Ability to effectively interact with all levels of management
CIP / CRM or equivalent designation preferred
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Strong oral and written communication skills as well as negotiation abilities
Effective time management skills
