The Senior Technical Writer is responsible and accountable for the standard-setting and development of a variety of technical documents required by the Alberta Netcare eReferral and Alberta Surgical Initiative Specialty Access Bundle programs.

Description:

Reporting to Provincial Director Access Improvement the Senior Technical Writer is responsible and accountable for the standard-setting and development of a variety of technical documents required by the Senior Operating Director, directors, managers, and project managers of the Provincial Clinical Excellence and HIE portfolios relating to Alberta Surgical Initiative Specialty Access Bundle and Alberta Netcare eReferral. Delivering shared services to the portfolios of HIE and Provincial Clinical Excellence, the Access Improvement and HIE team has an ever-increasing need for specialized, senior technical writing skills to translate highly complex technical concepts into plain language to support leaders in planning, decision-making, and service management. The Senior Technical Writing position is emerging as a critical strategic asset, requiring a unique blend of business and technical acumen to plan, coordinate, develop, and evaluate a library of technical documents in support of Alberta Surgical Initiative Specialty Access Bundle and Electronic Referral Solution (ERS) strategies. The position requires a strong working knowledge of IT technologies and services including but not limited to platform infrastructure, network, unified communications, and client support services. Partnering with a variety of leaders, architects, PMs, business analysts, operational teams and subject matter experts, this role responds to both planned and emergent needs for technical communication in the areas of procurement, projects, training, operations and strategic planning. Over time this role will also build capacity and competency in technical writing amongst Alberta Surgical Initiative and Electronic Referral Solution (ERS) service owners, managers and team members.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in computing sciences, engineering, or a communications-related discipline, with specific coursework in technical writing (Clearly demonstrated equivalencies may be considered). A broad portfolio of work and at least 6 to 8 years of technical writing experience in an IT environment. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Strong group facilitation and interview/ discovery skills. Fluency in standard desktop productivity tools (MS Office suite) and SharePoint, plus strong working knowledge of applicable technical writing tools for Help authoring, desktop publishing, graphic design, screen and video capture. Ability to travel occasionally if required. Additional Required Qualifications:

As required. Preferred Qualifications:

8 to 10 years' experience in producing technical documents in an IT environment, with at least 4 years at a senior level, demonstrating a strong working knowledge of IT technologies and services. Knowledge or experience of health care would be an asset.
