Dark Slope is a Toronto-based studio re-inventing television and games using metaverse technologies. The Role*As a Senior Technical Artist, you will play a leadership role in contributing to the success of our platform team by maximizing the visual fidelity of our products while staying within the performance constraints of our target devices including mobile VR HMD's such as the Oculus Quest 2. We are looking for someone who is an excellent collaborator, with significant experience in a AAA game studio art asset creation and supervisory role.
Responsibilities

• Develop powerful and efficient workflows for the Art team
• Research and implement new techniques and procedures to improve game asset quality
• Help improve and refine shader, texture, and lighting quality
• Explore and help develop new technologies for integration into the asset pipelineIdentify and resolve pipeline issues
• Analyze and improve art asset inefficiencies to optimize for VR and Quest VR performance
• Act as a liaison between the Engineering and Art departments

Essential Experience

• 3+ years of experience with Unreal Engine in a similar role
• In-depth knowledge of Unreal 4 editor workflows
• Experience with a wide range of DCC software packages, including 3Ds Max, Maya, Photoshop, Substance Suite etc.
• Ability to author functional and efficient materials with Unreal material editor
• Strong knowledge of fundamental art concepts
• Extensive production experience with UE4 in a wide variety of areas

Useful Experience & Skills

• Ability to rapidly prototype and ability to investigate other options and ideas
• Some experience working with procedural pipeline (Houdini) techniques a bonus
• Ability to solve complex problems with simple solutions
• Capacity to think out-of-the-box to overcome technical challenges
• Working knowledge of a scripting language a bonus (Python, C++, MAXScript, MEL etc)

We are a hybrid company with employees all over the world, but all our production happens in our 8000 sq. ft studio in Toronto featuring a state of the art motion capture facility, which is located just minutes away from both Dundas West and Lansdowne subway stations.
