The Canadian Corporate Tax team provides income tax advisory, compliance, reporting and audit support for all Canadian business units and functions within Manulife.

As Senior Analyst, you will report to the AVP, Canadian Tax and will support the day-to-day operations of the Corporate Tax function. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide technical expertise related to tax provisions and returns, including tax research to provide advice to our business units. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, enjoys continuous learning and working in a fast-paced environment. This role provides the opportunity to gain knowledge of the unique corporate tax rules that affect financial institutions and to interact with Canadian business areas.

Key Accountabilities:

Assist various business units in preparing quarterly tax provisions for Manulife's Canadian subsidiaries

Analyze and explain changes in effective tax rates and future tax positions of Canadian companies

Work as part of a team to prepare analysis and reports on income taxes as reported in the audited financial statements

Assist with compliance and reporting for Manulife, a multi-national life insurance company

Complete corporate tax returns and other compliance requirements for Manulife's Canadian subsidiaries

Adopt a mindset of continuous process improvement and automation of the compliance and reporting functions

Build relationships with business units and functions to understand internal accounting models, processes, administration systems, and controls

Correspond with external auditors and Federal and Provincial tax authorities

Assist with Federal and Provincial tax audits

Research and analysis of a wide variety of tax issues

Assist senior staff members with corporate tax initiatives

Work on special projects as related to income taxes as required

What we are looking for

Accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)

Knowledge of IFRS accounting

Enrolled in, or willing to enroll in, the CPA In-Depth Tax Course

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Strong accounting, analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities

Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with a team

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with an aptitude for new technology

Knowledge of Taxprep compliance software is an asset

Knowledge of the financial services industry is an asset

Knowledge of Longview Tax software is an asset
