General Summary: Creates advanced machine learning techniques that enable a broad set of technology verticals or designs and extends training or runtime frameworks or model efficiency software tools with new features and optimizations. Models, architects, and develops advanced machine learning hardware (co-designed with machine learning software) for inference or training solutions. These enable the discovery and improvement of state-of-the-art machine learning solutions that has general applicability at functional platform level towards audio, camera, graphics, video, sensors, wireless, and other functionality over various operating systems running on ARM processors and other embedded hardware like DSP/NSP processors, GPU processors that are embedded into mobile, edge, auto, and IOT products, or on data center based systems such as GPUs or dedicated AI hardware. Develops optimized software to enable AI models efficiently deployed on hardware, such as machine learning kernels, compiler tools, or model efficiency tools, to make sure of specific hardware features, and/or working closely with hardware teams for joint design and development. Works with and/or optimize machine learning software frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch to efficiently run machine learning algorithms on hardware.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field and 6+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field and 5+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field and 4+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications: • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field. • 5+ years of experience with Machine Learning frameworks (e.g., Tensor Flow, Caffe, Caffe 2, Pytorch, Keras). • 5+ years of experience with low level interactions between operating systems (e.g., Linux, Android, QNX) and Hardware. • 5+ years of experience in embedded system development and optimization with application to a specific problem domain in ML (e.g., NLP, multi-media). • 5+ years of experience with one or more programming language suitable for machine learning (e.g., Python, R, C, C++) • 5+ years of experience using statistics and probability (e.g., conditional probability, Bayes rule). • 3+ years experience working in a large matrixed organization. • 2+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director and above). • 1+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports (only applies to positions with direct reports). • Developed 1+ novel Machine Learning architecture(s). Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Leads technical conversation in design or project reviews and project meetings across multiple domains to monitor the effectiveness of machine learning solutions in meeting customer needs. • Plans and manages team activities on complex projects according to timelines and major project milestones to deliver solutions; monitors collaboration with cross-functional teams to accomplish tasks. • Coordinates team within a specific domain and oversees the engineering and management of complex or novel machine learning data. • Develops, adapts, or prototypes novel machine learning solutions aligned with and motivated by proposals or roadmaps for complex products and system-level features; advises and supervises small groups of less experienced engineers working together on common tasks. • Oversees and provides technical expertise to others conducting experiments within a domain to train and evaluate machine learning solutions. • Oversees efforts of a small team of less experienced engineers to optimize new or existing machine learning algorithms or models; solves complex system-level features with ambiguous requirements, including kernels and frameworks; creates and documents solutions to novel issues and shares lessons learned within domain. • Leads the integration of machine learning architecture into platforms and products for production; provides technical expertise to resolve systems-level issues during implementation. • Displays deep knowledge within a machine learning domain; acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitors' products, and advances within domain from publicly available information and research; shares knowledge within the team and across teams working on similar products. • Stays abreast of current and future machine learning trends to make suggestions in strategic discussions within a domain about the product/technology roadmap. Level of Responsibility: • Working independently with little supervision. • May provide supervision to direct reports. • Making decisions that are moderate in impact; errors may have relatively minor financial impact or affect on projects, operations, or customer relationships; errors may require involvement beyond immediate work group to correct. • Using verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question. May require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy, etc. • Some financial accountability (e.g., manages a small budget, has input into P&L). • Having a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions). • Completing tasks that do not have defined steps; simultaneous use of multiple mental abilities is generally required to determine the best approach; mistakes may result in significant rework. • Exercising exceptional creativity to innovate new ideas and develop innovative products/processes without established objectives or known parameters. • Working on abstract problems in variable situations that typically require complex analysis, interpretation, or evaluation of intangible factors; directing the resolution of complex problems that have impact beyond own area; participating in corporate development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people. • Participating in the organization's planning process, interpreting business strategies, establishing strategic plans and objectives for multiple areas and functions.
