Job Description

The Senior Specialist, Employee Relations works in the Employee Relations and Wellness Team and supports Business Leaders on subject area issues, grievance resolution and collective agreement interpretation and administration, while also supporting the delivery of Seaspan's strategic talent management and retention strategy.





The Senior Specialist, Employee Relations supports assigned business units to provide expertise and advice on employee relations and human resources matters. Based in North Vancouver, you will collaborate and work closely with the wider Employee Relations & Wellness Team on strategic projects across all of Seaspan's business units.





The Senior Specialist, Employee Relations reports to our Senior Director, Operational HR.


Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement. This role is a maternity leave coverage for 18-months with eligible benefits and 3 weeks' vacation.



What you'll do



Leads the investigation and resolution of complaints in assigned business units under our Respect in the Workplace Policy and Code of Conduct and Business Ethics. Provides discipline recommendations to management concerning workplace disputes, Collective Agreement interpretation and grievances in assigned business units. Supporting Employee Relations during collective bargaining in assigned business units. Acts as a single point of contact for managers and employees in assigned business units to deliver end-to-end Employee Relations and Human Resource programs. Collaborates with HR Centre's of Excellence and Senior HR Business Partners to build and implement standard methodologies that drive employee attraction, retention and development. Proactively supports managers with the interpretation and application of relevant Company policies and programs, including performance management, career development, workforce planning, and compensation. Promotes a culture of inclusion with a focus on employee engagement, diversity and inclusion programs. Responsible for case management of complex organizational issues, including investigations, substance use issues and performance management matters. Other duties as assigned.

What you'll bring



A degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Business Administration required. A minimum of 5 years of HR Generalist or ER Advisor experience, with at least 2 years of experience in a complex unionized environment. CPHR, SHRM or equivalent certification is preferred Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships within the HR Department and at all levels of the organization. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to optimally address often complex and sensitive employee matters. Adaptable to fast-paced and quickly changing business units and work priorities. Proven attention to detail when reviewing HR analytics, employment offers, Letters of Understanding and program materials and processes. Excellent knowledge of provincial legislation including the Human Rights Code, Labour Relations Code, and the Employment Standards Act. Knowledge of federal employment statutes would be an asset. Outstanding Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills required.

The estimated salary for this position is $99,000 - $121,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
