Introduction
As an IBM Application Architect, you directly help clients transform their business and solve complex problems. You will define the scope and vision for projects that deliver customized solutions using your knowledge of IBM platforms. You are a technical leader, serving as a liaison among business partners, technical resources, and project stakeholders.

Role & Responsibilities:

As a Senior Solution Architect at IBM iX (under IBM Consulting), you have a deep understanding of our clients' technology, but also an appreciation for their product and business, enabling you to make strategic recommendations for our clients that supports their vision in both a profitable and scalable way. With your seasoned solution architecture acumen and experience in working in agile & product-centric organizations, you provide leadership to project teams to ensure the successful delivery of digital experience solutions, across multiple channels including web and mobile. These solutions encompass the latest in digital technologies, including AI, cloud, mobility, and automation to deliver market-leading digital experiences. Furthermore, your expertise will span across multiple clients and sectors to help identify opportunities, develop industry-leading recommendations, and support the growth of our business.

Your responsibilities as a Senior Solution Architect are as follows:

  • Evaluate business input such as processes, requirements and strategy and determine technical solutions to support the business by leveraging a combination of industry expertise, knowledge of software/services, infrastructure, and hardware
  • Design feasible architectural solution that fits the overall product vision, considering business and technical requirements
  • Create and share solution architecture communications (written, designs and verbal) to all levels of stakeholders from executive leadership, product owners, peer architects to development teams
  • Act as a trusted advisor to our clients as well as our development team and product managers to provide technical recommendations
  • Support program estimations by helping to size relative efforts, identify gaps, dependencies, assumptions, and unspoken non-functional requirements
  • Participate in business development activities, from opportunity identification, qualification, scoping, solutioning, proposal writing, presentations and demonstrations
  • Lead teams in large digital transformation initiatives as technical leader, providing technical oversight, mentorship, and influential leadership to peers.
  • This role can be performed from Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and British Columbia

  • Provide technical recommendations based on critical objective analysis
  • Demonstrate ability to understand the rapidly evolving landscape of technology along with why and how they can be applied to real world scenarios
  • Ability to decompose technical concept as required to mentor other junior members of the team
  • Demonstrate ownership and responsibility for created architectural solutions for clients as if they were your own to build and maintain
  • Demonstrate technical eminence and inspire those around you to raise the team’s overall skill level
  • Bring a positive and encouraging attitude in all problems and challenges you face each day

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Required Qualifications:
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following characteristics:
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: computer science, engineering, MIS, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in the solution architecture role
  • 2+ years experience in a development role with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, Java, JavaScript (Angular/React/Vue/Node JS)
  • Software engineering experience and deep understanding leveraging design patterns
  • Breadth and depth of experience articulating architecture requirements for each component, including frontend, edge and security devices, systems of engagement, system of records, infrastructure and more
  • Demonstrated ability to create, present, and provide feedback to detailed technical solutions architectural specifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network and security architectures and customer identity access management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of performance optimization at different layers of the architecture and trade-offs
  • Familiar with the digital ecosystem, cloud platforms and digital platforms such as Salesforce, Adobe, etc.
  • Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, agile delivery principles and tools/frameworks (e.g. Atlassian stack or similar, Git)
  • Deep understanding of release management along with continuous integration/continuous delivery practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint and Excel)


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Bonus Qualifications:
  • Masters degree or equivalent
  • Previous experience in the financial services/banking industry
  • Professional certifications (TOGAF / OpenGroup / SAFe, etc.)
