About the role:

Reporting to the Manager, Insurance & Risk Management, this role will be responsible for the successful day-to-day operation of Sun Life\xe2\x80\x99s General Insurance department; also known as Corporate Risk Insurance.

What will you do?

  • Ensure implementation of and monitor processes for effective and efficient running of Sun Life\xe2\x80\x99s Property & Casualty Lines Programme and Financial Lines Programme.
  • Work with key internal and external stakeholders, supporting senior team members in the two (2) programme renewals, managing the department\xe2\x80\x99s Risk Management Insurance System (Riskonnect), providing tactical responses in the department\xe2\x80\x99s general email Inbox, serving as a backup on Mortgage Insurance administration.
  • Collection, analysis, preparation of all necessary renewal underwriting information, exposure data, and statements of values. Manage information submissions to insurers; including application completion.
  • Review of insurance policy wordings, insurance summaries, and binders; for accuracy and completeness, highlight issues and/or recommendations for change.
  • Provide internal and external stakeholders with responsive, timely, professional service; including the review of leases and other contracts for insurance and other contractual obligations of Sun Life and, where necessary, provide recommendations back to the Business Group and/or Legal Department. In some cases, may be involved in the negotiation with third parties\xe2\x80\x99 representatives.
  • General responsibilities for a broad and diverse set of activities in principal areas of insurance coverage:
  • responding to requests for certificates of insurance;
  • risk control activities such as arranging for insurance inspection of various physical locations and the management and tracking of reports;
  • accounting, and administration; including the preparation and tracking of all invoices, payments, expenses, receivables for processing by Accounting Department,
  • preparation and maintenance of all departmental accounting records, including general ledger reconciliations and month-end adjusting entries.
  • Ongoing development and continued maintenance of manuals, procedures, guidelines, summaries; this includes internal web-site administration.
  • Develop and maintain database tracking system for binders, policies, contracts, major claims, construction projects, insurance certificates and other related process efficiency initiatives.
What do you need to succeed?
  • Successful candidates must exhibit Sun Life\xe2\x80\x99s values of trust, team work, and accountability
  • Expert knowledge of insurance and risk management concepts, principals and practices acquired through formal academic training and/or four (4) years relevant experience in an insurance department, brokerage firm or general insurer.
  • Expert knowledge of contract / legal agreement structures specific to risk identification and mitigation techniques acquired through formal academic training and or four (4) years relevant experience.
  • Well developed judgment, problem solving and ability to think critically and strategically when formulating responses to insurance issues or concerns.
  • Working knowledge of financial institution operations, real estate investments lines of business and organisational structure, operational risk, law, accounting, financial analysis, statistics, policy development, and loss prevention.
  • Strong organizational skills; abilities to prioritize & meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
  • Well developed impact, influence and relationship management skills in group settings supported by excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills; including Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce platform.
Preferred Skills:
  • Canadian Risk Management (CRM) or Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation or completion of several basic insurance courses would be an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
