About this opportunity:
Cenovus is seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer to join our fast-paced and high-accountability Reservoir team. This role is responsible for analyzing well and reservoir operating data to implement strategies that enhance long-term reservoir performance, supporting Cenovus' thermal growth plans and involves optimizing multiple pads across properties such as Foster Creek, Christina Lake, Sunrise, and Lloydminster-area SAGD projects.
This position also offers opportunities to influence asset-spanning projects, and studies, including operational strategy advancements, well design, technology progression, field trials, and data science initiatives.
What you'll do:
Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary pad team to identify opportunities to improve well and pad performance.
Propose and implement new technology studies and field trials, including the development of learning plans, analysis of results, documentation of key insights, and transition of successful initiatives to commercialization.
Continuously improve standards and influence best practices within the thermal reservoir community (e.g., well placement, completion designs, liner specifications, well operating strategies).
Forecast well performance and design optimized completions while evaluating opportunities to enhance value through operating strategy, well placement, SOR management, and late-life production (rampdown/blowdown) strategies.
Collaborate with teams across Geology & Geophysics, Production, Reservoir Development, Drilling & Completions, Facility & Process Engineering, Projects, and external partners (e.g. regulators, technology solution vendors).
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) accredited with APEGA or other Provincial Professional Organization
  • Prior experience working on commercially operating SAGD assets (production, development, completions or reservoir engineering)
  • SAGD thermal experience or other enhanced oil recovery experience in a subsurface role is considered an asset
  • Solid understanding of thermal reservoir simulation (CMG STARS, SLB IX / Intersect, Cenovus SAPSIM, or an equivalent thermal simulation software package) is considered an asset
  • Experience programming in one or more languages (Python, R, VBA, Matlab, C++, SQL, etc.) is considered an asset
